The company, in a blog post released on Sunday, stated, "This difficult decision had been taken with a backdrop of an uncertain economic climate, including high inflation and volatile exchange rates."
As per the announcement, the PS5's digital version — which lacks a disk drive — will now be pricier in Europe, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. In Europe, the price has been set at €499.99 ($570.04), and in the UK it has risen to £429.99 ($566.53).
The cost of the regular PS5 with a Blu-ray disc drive is also increasing in Australia and New Zealand. Some nations in the Middle East and Africa region will experience an increase in price, even though Sony didn't reveal particular details for those countries.
Sony stated that the cost of the more powerful PS5 Pro console, which debuted in November, will be unchanged. The firm also stated that the PS5 disk drive as a standalone accessory will be cheaper.
The moves follow persistent worldwide economic uncertainty. US-imposed tariffs, particularly those under ex-President Donald Trump, have unsettled markets and fuelled a broader trade war with China.
